DVI - Digital Visual Interface
DVI is an interface to transmit analogous and digital video and graphic signals.
For computers this type of interface has prevailed for flat screens. DVI is used to
connect high quality graphic board to high resolution flat screens. The advantage
of DVI is that the digital signals from the graphic board do not need to be
converted into analogous signals but can be transferred directly to the digital flat
screen without any impairment to the quality.
S-Video
S-Video (also known as Separate Video, Y/C) refers to the separate transmission
of brightness and colour information with corresponding cable connections.
DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting)
This is originally a European initiative to develop and standardize digital
broadcasting standards for television. Today, the standards of the DVB family are
the most widespread standards for digital television.
SCART
SCART is a European standard for plug-in connections of video and audio
devices such as television sets or video recorder. The abbreviation SCART
stands for the French Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et
Téléviseurs (Association of manufacturers of radio and television receivers).
The SCART connector intends to simplify and standardize the connection of
different devices by including one single multi pin plug used by all manufacturers.
The SCART connector allows to transmit the analogous signals Composite
Video, RGB and on newer devices S-Video. Other signals than RGB such as
forms of Component Video like YUV Video and digital video and audio signals are
not supported.
Due to its shape it is impossible to connect the plug wrongly.
Composite Video
Composite Video is the format of the analogous TV picture signal before it is
combined with the modulated sound signal and modulated onto an RF carrier
Frequency (Radio or television Frequency). Composite Video is also referred to
