6.  INSTALLATION

This technical manual should be read in full before any installation work is attempted.

6.1  General Information

The attention of the installer is drawn to the following general requirements for installation of a Tapeswitch
sensing edge system:

(a)

The machine must be electrically controllable (machine power leveraged by internal/external signals).

(b)

It must be possible to stop the dangerous motion of the machine at any point in its operation, in any operating

mode.

(c)

The control system, as a whole, must be designed to provide the level of safety integrity determined by the risk

assessment.

(d)

Steps must be taken to prevent access to the dangerous parts of the machine from any direction not covered

by the sensing edge. Such steps could include safety mats, light curtains, fixed or interlocking fences or
screens, additional.

(e)

Steps must be taken to prevent a person from standing in the dangerous area without being protected. It may

be necessary to apply additional mechanical and/or electrical safety devices to cover any surfaces within the
dangerous area on which a person could stand, such as the

base of the machine.

(f)

All edge sensors must be mechanically affixed such that it cannot be easily moved or removed. Tamperproof

hardware is highly recommended to discourage any un-authorized manipulation of the edge sensor or
sensors.

(g)

There are no user-serviceable parts and the edge should never be altered or modified from its original

construction. Doing so will render the sensing edge nonfunctioning and immediately void any standing
warranty.

(h)

Great care should be taken when handling edge sensors. Never pick the edge sensor up by or drag it around

using the cables. Never bend or fold an edge sensor. Keep edge sensors flat whenever possible. Always
store edge sensors flat. Edge sensors longer than 1 meter, should be handled by more than one person.

(i)

   After installation to

machine, the edge sensor and SIM must be commissioned in accordance with Section 7

of this manual.

(j)

Any covers removed during installation must be replaced as soon as possible.

WARNING:  The Tapeswitch safety edge sensor is designed to protect operators working at or near
dangerous machines. It can only perform that function if it is correctly installed and interfaced to a
suitable machine controller and/or Safety Interface Module (SIM).

It  is  the  responsibility  of  the  user  to  ensure  that  all  persons  involved  in  the  installation  of  the
product have the knowledge, training and experience necessary, and that they are fully competent
with  knowledge  of  all  laws,  rules,  regulations  and  codes  of  practice  pertaining  to  their  task.  This
includes familiarity with the safety documents referenced on the title page of this manual.
