Decode UPC/EAN Supplementals

Supplementals are additionally appended characters (2 or 5) according to specific code
format conventions (e.g., UPC A+2, UPC E+2, EAN 8+2). Three options are available.
• If UPC/EAN with supplemental characters is selected, UPC/EAN symbols without
supplemental characters are not decoded.
• If UPC/EAN without supplemental characters is selected, and the SE 2223/
3223 is presented with a UPC/EAN plus supplemental symbol, the UPC/EAN is
decoded and the supplemental characters ignored.
• An autodiscriminate option is also available. If this option is selected, scan Decode
UPC/EAN Supplemental Redundancy on page 9-35 , then select a value from the
numeric bar codes beginning on page 9-134 . A value of 5 or more is
recommended.
Note: To minimize the risk of invalid data transmission, we recommend
that you select whether to read or ignore supplemental characters.
