Alerting using notifications
Configuring a pager notification
Pager notifications transmit the text of the log message generating the notification to a designated
paging device. Pager notifications require that you enter the telephone number of the pager to call.
You must have a Hayes-compatible modem and specify its USB port using the Notify daemon
properties dialog box on the Modem tab in the System > Configuration window.
For alphanumeric pagers, the paging provider must support the Telocator Alphanumeric Paging (TAP)
protocol, also known as the Motorola/IXO alphanumeric paging protocol.
Set your modem speed to 2400 or even 300 bps to maintain compatibility with the TAP protocol
definition.

To configure a pager notification
1
In the SGMI, in the left pane, under Monitors, click Notifications .
2 In the right pane, on the Notifications tab, click New > Pager Notification .
3 In the Pager Notification Properties dialog box, on the General Tab, to enable notification through
pagers, check enable.
4 In the Notification Name text box, type a name for the notification.
5 Optionally, in the Time Period drop-down list, you can select a time period in which the notification
will be valid.
6 Check the appropriate Triggered by Event options to define the severity of the alerts necessary to
trigger the notification.

In the Pager Number text box, type the number of the pager.
8 In the User text box, type the name of the page recipient.
9 In the Caption text box, type a brief description of the notification.
10 Optionally, on the Description tab, type a more detailed description than you typed in the Caption
text box.
11 Click OK .
12 Optionally, do one of the following:

To save your configuration now and activate later, on the toolbar, click Save .
■
To activate your configuration now, on the toolbar, click Activate .
When prompted to save your changes, click Yes .
13 If you set the security level for triggering a notification to Alert, you can use the Alert Threshold
tab in the Rule Properties dialog box to control when alert events are logged.
