Sylantro 24-Port Adapter Installation Guide 3-15
Installing the 24-Port Adapter
3
Making the Network Connections
The adapter should be connected directly to the first Ethernet switch or router that is
connected to the incoming broadband IP connection from the service provider. After
the incoming line is terminated in the customer’s wiring closet, a connection is made
from the termination box to a device that converts the incoming line to
10/100-BaseT Ethernet. The 10/100-BaseT line is then connected to an Ethernet
switch. The data subnet and the voice subnet (adapter) are then connected to the
switch. This configuration allows both data and voice traffic to pass to the service
provider network using a single physical line. The network connections are made
using Category 5 cables.
To connect the adapter to an Ethernet switch, connect one end of a Category 5 cable
to an open port on the Ethernet switch, and the other end to the Ethernet port on the
back of the adapter as shown in Figure 3-5.

Connecting the Adapter to an Ethernet Switch
This configuration applies to any incoming broadband connection such as a DSL
line or T1/E1 line from the service provider. The network connection provided by
the service provider should have sufficient bandwidth to support the customer data
and voice requirements.
