FINAL GEAR OIL
Change the gear oil at initial 1000 km
(600 miles) and inspect every 12000
km (7500 miles). Use SAE90 hypoid
gear oil which is rated GL-5 under API
classification system. If you operate
the motorcycle where ambient tem-
perature is below 0°C (32°F) use SAE
80 hypoid gear oil. The procedure is
as follows:
1. Place the motorcycle on the side
stand.
2. Remove the oil filler cap
1
.
3. Drain the oil by removing the drain
plug
2
into a suitable container
from the bottom of the final gear
case while holding the motorcycle
vertically.
4. Reinstall the drain plug and
tighten it securely after all the oil
has been drained out. Pour fresh
oil through the filler hole until the
oil level reaches the oil filler hole
while holding the motorcycle verti-
cally. Approximately 200 – 220 ml
(6.8 – 7.4/7.0 – 7.7 US/Imp oz) of
oil will be required.
5. Reinstall the oil filler cap.
NOTE: Recycle or properly dispose of
used oil.
WARNING
Operating the motorcycle with too
little final gear oil can cause the
final drive unit to lock up and
cause an accident.
Check for leaks and the correct
level of final gear oil before each
use. Add oil if necessary. Tighten
the drain plug securely after
changing the gear oil.
WARNING
Children and pets may be harmed
by swallowing new or used oil.
Repeated, prolonged contact with
used engine oil may cause skin
cancer. Brief contact with oil may
irritate skin.
Keep new and used oil and used
oil filters away from children and
pets. To minimize your exposure
to used oil, wear a long-sleeve
shirt and moisture-proof gloves
(such as dishwashing gloves)
when changing oil. If oil contacts
your skin, wash thoroughly with
soap and water. Launder any
clothing or rags if wet with oil.
Recycle or properly dispose of
used oil and filters.
