Chapter 4: Motherboard Connections
NVMe SMBus Headers
NVMe SMBus (I
2
C) headers (JNVI
2
C1/JNVI
2
C2), used for PCI-E SMBus clock and data
connections, provide hot-plug support via a dedicated SMBus interface. This feature is only
available for a Supermicro complete system with an SMCI-proprietary NVMe add-on card
and cable installed. Also, JNVI
2
C1 and JNVI
2
C2 are VPP headers for NVMe add-on cards.

PCI-E M.2 Slot
The motherboard has one PCI-E M.2 slot. The M.2, formerly known as Next Generation Form
Factor (NGFF) replaces a mini PCI-E slot. The M.2 allows for a variety of card sizes and offers
increased functionality and spatial efficiency. The M.2 socket on the motherboard supports
PCI-E 3.0 x4 (32 Gb/s) SSD cards in the 2260, 2280 and 22110 form factors.
