Chapter 3: Maintenance and Component Installation
3.8 System Cooling
The CSE-515B-R601W comes standard with six counter-rotating fans. Two additional fans
may be added as an option.
The fans can adjust their speed according to the heat level sensed in the system, which
results in more efficient and quieter operation. Fan speed is controlled by IPMI. Each fan has
its own separate tachometer.
If a fan fails, the remaining fans will ramp up to full speed. Replace any failed fan at your
earliest convenience with the same type and model. Note that it might take ten minutes to
replace a fan.
Replacing a System Fan
1. Determine which fan has failed using a remote management utility.
2.
Once the failed fan has been identified, remove power from the system as described in
Section 3.1 and remove the chassis cover as described in Section 3.2.
3. Disconnect the failed fan from the motherboard.
4. Remove the failed fan from the fan tray.
5. Install a new fan into the drive tray.
6. Connect the fan to the motherboard.
7. Reinstall the chassis cover.
8. Reconnect the power cord and power up the system.
