4. Unpack the new controller canister and check it to make sure that it uses the same
size cache SIMMs as the controller canister you are replacing.
If the SIMMs are not installed in the replacement controller, install them now. See
Section 6.3.2 “Upgrading a SIMM Module” on page 6-7.
5. Install the new controller canister (reverse

).
a. Unlock and open the handles on the new controller canister.
b. Set the canister into the empty slot.
c. Holding the handles, slide the canister slowly into the slot until the hooked
edges (on the back of each handle) engage the sides of the inner frame.
d. Fold both handles to the center and lock them in place.
6. For controller canisters with FC-AL ports, reconnect the fiber optic cables.
7. Check the LEDs on the new controller (

on page 4-5).
The green Power LED should be lit.

If the Power LED remains off or the Fault LED comes on after a few seconds,
check to make sure that the controller canister is locked into place.
■
If the Fault LED remains on, it may indicate that the new controller has failed or
that there is a problem with the controller back panel.
