Disabling the Network Interfaces and
Removing the Adapter
This procedure describes how to disable the adapter’s
qfe
interfaces before
removing the adapter from a hot swap server. This procedure also lists cautions that
must be followed when removing the adapter from the server.

To Disable the Network Interfaces and Remove
the Adapter
Before starting this procedure, make sure that all network activity over the adapter’s
network interfaces has stopped.
1. Log into the system as superuser.
Refer to the system’s documentation for the correct procedure.
2. Use the
ifconfig
command to disable the
qfe
interfaces.
To disable each active
qfe
interface on the adapter, use the following command to
disable and unplumb each interface (replace instance with the instance number of the
interface):
For example, if the adapter had four active
qfe
devices named
qfe0
,
qfe1
,
qfe2
,
and
qfe3
, you would type:
The preceding commands will stop the system from transmitting messages through
qfe
devices, which will allow you to safely remove the adapter from the system.
# ifconfig qfe
instance
unplumb down
# ifconfig qfe0 unplumb down
# ifconfig qfe1 unplumb down
# ifconfig qfe2 unplumb down
# ifconfig qfe3 unplumb down
