INSTALLATION
7
2.1 MOUNTING OF COMPRESSOR
The compressor package should be placed on a
surface or foundation that is capable of supporting
its weight (24, 000 lbs).
No piping loads or moments should be transmitted
to the air and fuel connections provided with the
package.
2.2 VENTILATION AND COOLING
Select a location that allows an unrestricted flow of
free ventilation air through the package, (approxi-
mately 32,000 CFM [906 m3/min]). The maximum
allowable ambient temperature is 115°F (46°C).
Heat rejection to the surrounding environment can
be up to 30,000 BTU/min.
Avoid any recirculation or ingestion of heated
gases.
Compressor and engine/intake
is located next to
package controller.
Package discharge (cooling air)
is located on top
of package.
Package intake (cooling air)
is located on end of
package.
Maintain a 6 ft. (1.8m) minimum separation
between the package and any surrounding walls.
If ductwork is installed, the total restriction on intake
must not exceed 0.1 inches H2O (25 Pascals). The
total restriction on the outlet must not exceed 0.1
inches H2O (25 Pascals).
Elevation:
Engine deration begins at altitudes
above 7500 ft. (2286m). Refer to The Caterpillar®
manual for deration details.
2.3 SERVICE AIR CONDENSATE PIPING
A shut-off valve is included to isolate the package
from the supply line as required.
No piping loads or moments should be transmitted
to the air connections provided with the package.
Condensate drains shall be connected to a non-
pressurized gravity feed drain. If the compressor
drains are manifolded together, care should be
taken to insure that this drain is not pressurized
when the machine condensate drains (both auto-
matic or manual) are in operation.
All condensate should be disposed of in accor-
dance with local governing laws.
2.4 FLUID LEVEL CHECK
The compressor lube circuit is supplied with the
proper charge of Sullair AWF lube oil. Two sight
glasses, located at the sump end, indicate the level
of lubricant in the sump. The following guideline for
oil level should be used:
Compressor stopped:
Oil level should reach 25-
100% of the upper sight glass.
Compressor operating:
Oil level should be
between the upper and lower sight glasses. The
compressor should not be operated with an oil level
below the lower sight glass.
The engine dipstick should be checked and the
proper level should be visible prior to operation.
Check engine radiator coolant level and make up
reservoir for correct coolant level.
