If the starter rope can be pulled
out but then rewinds very slowly or
incompletely, the starter mecha-
nism is OK but clogged with dirt.
At very low outside temperatures,
the lubricating oil on the rewind
spring may thicken and cause the
spring windings to stick together.
This has a detrimental effect on
the function of the starter mecha-
nism. It is sufficient in such cases
to apply a few drops of paraffin to
the rewind spring.
Carefully pull out the starter rope
several times and allow it to re-
wind until its normal smooth
action is restored.
The entire starter mechanism in-
cluding rewind spring must be re-
moved and disassembled if clog-
ged with dirt or pitch. Special care
must be exercised when removing
the spring!
All parts must be washed in paraf-
fin or white spirit.
The rewind spring and starter post
must be lubricated with STIHL
special lubricant,
, before
being installed.
