E-bikes and pedelecs with CE mark and pedal assistance up to 25 km/h are covered by the Machinery Directive, therefore components of
these bicycles may not be easily replaced or modified. In order to clarify the situation, a guideline for replacing E-bike/Pedelec 25 parts
has been jointly released by the associations Zweirad-Industrie-Verband (ZIV) and Verbund Service und Fahrrad (VSF) in cooperation with
the Zedler-Institut and the Bundesinnungverbsband Fahrrad (BIV).
The guideline clearly regulates which parts bicycle dealers and workshops are allowed to replace on these vehicles and for which parts
they require approval from vehicle manufacturers or system suppliers. As such, it can be regarded as a recommended course of action.
Replacing the SQlab 600 active saddle on a Pedelec25 is
not possible
based on the recommendations of the "Guidelines for the repla-
cement of components in CE-marked e-bikes/pedelecs with pedal assistance up to 25 km/h" of the Zweirad-Industrie-Verband (ZIV)
and Verbund Service und Fahrrad (VSF) in cooperation with the Zedler-Institut and the Bundesinnungsverband Fahrrad (BIV),
as the
displacement towards the rear to the series/original use area is greater than 20 mm.
A changed load distribution beyond the intended
adjustment range may cause critical steering characteristics. The length of the seat stays on the saddle frame and the saddle shape also
play a role.
On our website www.sq-lab.com/service/downloads/
in the service area under Downloads you will find a document called eBike Ready.
There you will find detailed information about the component exchange on Pedelec25, as well as the guide for the component exchange
made by the associations Zweirad-Industrie-Verband (ZIV), Verbund Service und Fahrrad (VSF), the Zedler Institute and the Bundesin-
nungsverband Fahrrad (BIV).
A component exchange of the SQlab 600 active on fast pedelecs, so-called S-pedelecs, which are classified as motor vehicles and com-
ply with EU Directive 2002/24/E6 or EU Regulation No. 168/2013, is
not possible
on the basis of the guideline "Exchange of components
on S-Pedelecs - fast e-bikes / pedelecs with pedal assistance up to 45 km/h" issued by the Federal Guild Association for the German
Two-Wheel Mechanic Trade (BIV), TÜV Rheinland, velotech.de, Verbund Service und Fahrrad (VSF), Zedler-Institut as well as the German
Two-Wheel Industry Association (ZIV).
