o
Find a location where the equipment can be placed more than 6 feet from any structure or
obstruction (ex: electrical wires, branches, house, fence, garage) The safe play area refers to
a zone extending 6’ beyond the gym set on all sides, including the space above the gym set.
o
The safe play area must be free of all structures, landscaping, tress and branches, rocks, wires
and other obstacles to safe play. Children can be seriously injured running or swinging into
these obstacles.
o
Remove any rocks or any jagged or sharp object that could endanger your children’s’ safety.
o
Remove all tripping hazards from the safe play area. Tripping hazards include but are not
limited to: roots, stumps, rocks, landscaping, sprinkler heads, railroad ties, plumbing, and
electrical connections.
o
Do NOT install your gym set over gravel, asphalt, packed earth or any other hard surface. The
following is a list of recommended ground covers from the Consumer Product Safety
Commission.
ASSEMBLY TIPS
Climbing Rungs/Dowels. (If your set has climbing rungs.) Once the dowel is installed in the ladder rail, the
end of each dowel must be secured by a screw through the ladder rail into the dowel end. To avoid splitting
the wood, you must pre-
drill a pilot hole for the screws using a 1/8” drill bit. The procedure required to install
the dowels is detailed and illustrated in these instructions and must be followed precisely.
Metal plates: The structural integrity of the play set is dependent on the proper installation of the metal plates.
As noted and diagrammed in these instructions, the installation of these metal plates must be followed
precisely. If your play set has end ladders or swing beam supports, make sure they are angled away from
the top ladder or swing beam. If the Wood Set has one or two climbing towers, the metal plates must be
installed so that each climbing tower is perpendicular to the top ladder.
Ground stakes: Unless you have loose or sandy soil, cementing is neither recommended nor required.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE:
After Assembly
: Perform a follow-up inspection one week after initial installation.
Bi-Monthly
: Perform a thorough inspection twice a month for the life of your wood play set. Provide
appropriate maintenance as deemed necessary
Annually
: Wood refinishing is typically required at twelve-month intervals from the date of installation.
Weather conditions may require more frequent refinishing.
