6. Strenuous movements by the subject or extreme electrosurgical interference may also affect accuracy.
7. The patient may not wear nail varnish or other makeup.
3.3 Clinical Restrictions
1. As the measurement is taken on the basis of the arteriole pulse, substantial pulsating blood flow of the
subject is required. For a subject with a weak pulse due to shock, a low ambient/body temperature, major
bleeding or the use of a vascular contracting drug, the SpO
2
waveform (PLETH) will decrease. In this case,
the measurement will be more sensitive to interference.
2. For patients having taken a substantial amount of staining dilution drugs (such as methylene blue, indigo
green and acid indigo blue) or with a high quantity of carbon monoxide hemoglobin (COHb), methionine
(Me+Hb) or thiosalicylic hemoglobin, and in some patients suffering from icterus disorders, the SpO
2
mea-
surement made by this monitor may be inaccurate.
3. Drugs such as dopamine, procaine, prilocaine, lidocaine and butacaine may also be a major factor of serious
SpO
2
measurement errors.
4. As the SpO
2
value is used as a reference value for diagnosing anemic anoxia and toxic anoxia, some patients
with serious anemia may also show good SpO2 measurements.
