And always choose a place, where you can be sure nothing gets damaged behind
or below the panel when drilling the holes for the amplifier mounting screws. Be
aware that there could be wiring harnesses, the fuel tank or other objects behind
panels, that should definitely not be punctured! After installation, there should be a
clearance of at least 5cm around the amp on all sides!
GENERAL INFO ABOUT WIRES
MAIN POWER CABLE CROSS SECTION
The minimum power cable cross-section for this SPECTRON amplifier is
8-10mm²
. If you intend to run your amp in bridge mode, or if you intend to branch
up two or more amplifiers to the same main power cable, consider the minimum
cross section of the main cable to be 16-20mm².
These recommendations guarantee a trouble-free operation of your amp, sustaining
full power output with low distortion. Using main power cables with a smaller cross
section than advised, will result in over-heating of the internal amplifier electronics
and elevated distortion level.
RCA INTERCONNECTS
Use at least double shielded RCA interconnect cables. Keep in mind, that the
RCA interconnects should always be routed and kept far away from any potential
sources of electrical interference. For example always avoid to cross electronic
vehicle management systems (engine computers, relays etc.) fuel pumps, wiring
harnesses etc.
MINIMUM SPEAKER IMPEDANCES
This amplifier model has been optimized to drive speakers with an impedance of 2
ohms (minimum) in stereo configuration, or 4 ohms in bridge mode. Therefore, you
can connect 4 to 2 ohm satellite speaker systems – or a 4 ohm subwoofer system
in mono bridged mode. Do NOT operate this SPECTRON amplifier bridged into 2
ohm loads!!!!
AMPLIFIER MOUNTING
Attention! For your own safety, disconnect the ground wire from the
negative battery pole (-12V) - or else, remove the main fuse of your +12V
main power cable, before you start any wiring work!
Use the amp itself as a template to mark the mounting holes with a pencil or a
felt-tip marker. Pilot-drill the these holes, using a 2,5mm or 3mm drill bit on your
power drill. Insert the supplied rubber washers into the mounting holes of the amp.
Important: Car-amplifiers must always be mounted totally isolated from the vehicle’s
chassis ground! Bolt the unit in place with the supplied self tapping screws.
Note! The amplifier, or parts of it like the heatsink or the bottom plate,
must never touch or have contact with metal parts of the vehicle, since
electrical ground-loops always result in loud hum noise!
