SPA DESIGN MICRODASH LOGGER OPERATING MANUAL
For MicroDash PC software operation, please refer to the on-line documentation in the help file.
After the SPA MicroDash logger has been switched on, wait a couple of seconds for the display to initialize
(SPA DASH disappears).
If any under or over alarms or activated, the letters are flashed on the LCD to show which channel has activated
the alarm (it may be necessary to scroll the display if you are using more than 2 channels). Also the under or over
(or both) external alarm lamps (if fitted) are flashed. For example if oil pressure is shown as OP on the display,
then if the oil pressure drops below the low pressure alarm set point OP will flash on the display and the external
under alarm lamp will flash.
GENERAL SETUP NOTES:-
TACHOMETER
To setup the tacho, simply select the number of cylinders your engine uses.
For certain types of ignition systems,
that is ones that have more than one ignition coil per engine, it will be necessary to set the cylinders to a different
number than the engine has. If you are using a tacho output from the ignition amplifier box, some systems (like
the Ford coil less) give half the ignition pulses and so cylinders would be set to 2.
Also most motorcycles use an ignition coil per pair of cylinders, so a 4 cylinder engine would need to be set to 2
on the tachometer since it will only see half the number of ignition pulses.
Normally the filter is set to ON, but if you are using a special CDI ignition you may have to select it to OFF as
the ignition pulses are very short, although this is very rare.
Speedometer
Since the whole accuracy of the speedo hinges in the accuracy of the circumference data (factory default is
1800mm) it is important to set it up correctly. It is possible to "Trim" the speedo to take into account external
errors and to cater for differential ratios when measuring from prop shafts. PLEASE NOTE: If the speedo is not
calibrated and the sensor not set correctly, the speedo may record incorrect distance on the odometer. Correct
operation is important since the odometer cannot be reset. Measure the tyre at the centre of the tread and enter
this value using the menu system. The trigger points are usually set to one (factory default setting) for a single
magnet.
Pressure
The factory default for pressure is OIL, this is shown by the letter symbol OP on the display. Also pressure units
are set by default to PSI, and the low pressure warning is set to 25PSI. All theses can be changed if desired, IE
the letter symbol, the units, and the low pressure set point. If you wish to change these, please refer to the
‘Display and menu system’ section, or see the on-line documentation to use the PC software to setup analog
channels.
Temperature
The factory default for temperature is WATER, this is shown by the letter symbol WT on the display. Also
temperature units are set by default to Degrees C, and the over temperature warning is set to 105. All theses can
be changed if desired, IE the letter symbol, the units, and the over temperature set point. If you wish to change
these, please refer to the ‘Display and menu system’ section, or see the on-line documentation to use the PC
software to setup analog channels.
Logger LED’s
If logging is enabled (see menu system), the logger will start to log data as soon as the start conditions are met
(IE rpm and speed are high enough). When logging starts a red LED on the CPU box will light up. When the
memory is full, logging will stop and the red LED will flash slowly until the memory is erased.
When the memory is full, the logger will stop logging data, and the red LED on the CPU box will flash slowly. It
will keep flashing until the memory is erased.
