Important Information about your TV connection and signal
The next few pages will guide you through steps for setting up your cable
tuner to receive a TV signal - digital and analog. Before continuing, read the
following information:
•
The VGX-XL3 digital tuner with a CableCARD™ enables you to watch and
record high-definition TV and premium digital cable channels. If you are a
cable user and want to use a CableCARD for accessing TV signals, you
will need to contact your cable TV provider to order a CableCARD. A
CableCARD is a security card that fits in the slot on the digital cable tuner
included with your VGX-XL3 and decodes the encrypted digital TV content
that your TV provider delivers through the coaxial cable to your home.
If you do not have a CableCARD, you can still use your VGX-XL3 cable
tuner to tune authorized digital channels. The steps on the following pages
configure your cable tuner to receive a non-premium network cable signal,
an NTSC (analog cable) signal or an ATSC (over-the-air) signal.
•
If you are a cable user and do not have a set top box, connect the cable
from your wall to the cable tuner on your VGX-XL3. You can watch and/or
record TV directly from Media Center and take advantage of the Media
Center features.
•
If you are a cable user with a set top box, connect the cable from your wall
to the set top box and the cable from the set top box to the cable tuner on
your VGX-XL3. You can view TV directly from the set top box or from
Media Center.
•
If you connected an ATSC antenna to the cable tuner on your VGX-XL3,
you can receive over-the-air high definition signals—if your antenna is
within distance of local broadcasts and free of interference.
•
High Definition Note
: Media Center currently supports free ATSC over-
the-air high-definition television signals and subscription-based high-
definition service. To receive subscription-based high-definition service,
including premium programming, you must subscribe to a supported digital
cable TV package. For more information about digital cable subscription-
based services, contact your local cable TV provider.
Ready to begin
You are now ready to begin setting up your TV to work with Windows Media
Center. Windows Media Center recognizes the internal cable TV tuner and
presents you with the appropriate wizard (series of screens) for each type of
tuner. Read each screen carefully and follow the instructions for setting up the
TV tuner.
