Powered-off replacement parts
The following parts require that the server unit is powered
off before attempting to replace parts (see
“How to power
off the server” on page 45 for details).
OS HDD replacement
Two Operating System (OS) hard disk drives (HDDs) are
located in the front compartment of the server chassis.
OS HDD Removal

Before powering off to replace a faulty drive, identify
the faulty drive from the RAID diagnostics page
accessible using the Administration web pages (see
“Recovery from a failed OS disk drive” on page 52 for
details).

Unpack the 2.5” slim-line hard disk drive in
preparation for installation.

Power off the unit (see “How to power off the server”
on page 45 ) and then remove the rear and front lids
(see “Front lid removal” on page 83 ) to access the
part.

Identify which drive is faulty by comparing the serial
number of the disks with the number shown by the
System RAID web page.

disconnect the 4-pin S-ATA cable and 2-pin power
cable.

Remove the single Flat Head #6-32x5 mm screw and
slide the slim-line hard drive assembly towards the
front of the unit and lift clear.

Remove the faulty drive from the tray by removing the
four Flat Head, M3x5 mm screws.
OS HDD installation

Place and align the replacement HDD on the tray
securing it with the four Flat Head, M3x5 mm screws
previously removed.

Position the HDD and tray, replace the single retaining
screw previously removed.

Reconnect the 4-pin S-ATA cable and 2-pin power
cable.

Replace the front and rear lids (see “Front lid
replacement” on page 83 ) and power on the server
(see “How to power on the system” on page 45 ).
Checks after replacement
After replacement, use the Administration web pages (see
“HDXchange administration web pages” on page 51 ) for
details of recovery from failed OS disk drive.
