Click on the [System RAID] button to access
operating system diagnostics.
A visual display of the OS RAID HDDs is displayed,
splitting up each HDD into boot, swap and root segments.
The disks appear green when functioning normally, and
change to red when a fault occurs.
Recovery from a failed OS disk drive
The recovery procedure for the OS RAID depends on the
severity of the failure.
•
Partial failure
- a gradual degradation of the disk will be
visible from the administrator web page, and notified to
all logged in clients, if the windows messenger service
has been enabled. In the event of partial failure, the
affected OS hard drive should be changed as soon as
possible.
•
Complete disk failure
- in the event of complete OS
disk failure the server will stop responding, mounted
drives will not be available and the administrator web
pages will be unavailable.
•
Dual complete OS disk failure
- in the unlikely event of
a dual OS disk failure, both disks must be replaced. The
operating system will then need to be restored using the
Restore CD and the latest Checkpoint file.
Recovery from partial OS drive failure
1
If the System RAID diagnostics indicate a problem,
click on the [Maintenance] button to attempt to
recover/rebuild the problem drive.
2
A text window displays information about the rebuild
process. If there is no problem to fix or if the drive
cannot be fixed, proceed to step 4. Otherwise the
partition structure of the faulty drive is rebuilt and data
is re-synchronised between the drives. This may take
approximately 40 minutes. When “Rebuild Complete”
is displayed, close the window.
