Acoustic Command Functions
The ‘Command’ concept refers to the remote control of the operating modes of a transponder by
coded acoustic signals, generally transmitted from a Sonardyne transceiver operated from a
surface vessel. The basic applications are to ‘
ENABLE’
and ‘
DISABLE’
the transponder. The
essential requirement is high security with a very low probability of false actuation. The traditional
technique is a pulse position code using three tone bursts of different frequencies. The three pulses
uniquely define the address of the commanded WSM6, and the command function to be executed.
The command address of the unit is a three or four digit number that is set using the test software
and a serial link cable. Refer to
Section 7.4.2 - General Status
The first two digits of the address are known as the command code. The preferred range is 33 to
47.
