6.6.1
Lubrication of Subconn and Micro-Subconn Connectors
Before proceeding with any maintenance activity, make sure all Warnings and Cautions, the
and the Safety Manual are read and fully understood.
WARNING
The lubricant used can cause slight irritation through prolonged usage. When applying
the lubricant to the connector face make sure Personal Protective Equipment such as
gloves are worn.
CAUTIONS
The Subconn and Micro-Subconn connectors must not be mated without lubrication as
this will lead to delamination of the rubber from the connection pins and connector failure.
Failure to clean sand or silt from the connectors could result in the splaying of the
female contact and damage to the ‘O’ ring seals.
Do not over apply grease to the connector faces as a build up of grease in the female
connector will affect connector integrity.
1.
Make sure the connectors are clean and dry. Accumulation of sand or silt must be removed
with clean fresh water, and dried thoroughly.
2.
Using the manufacturer’s recommended lubricant – Molykote 44 Medium – apply a sparing
amount across the connector face using a clean finger. This will allow a small amount of
grease to enter the connector as the faces are mated.

3.
Lubricate the ‘O’-rings with petroleum jelly.
4.
Refit the ‘O’-rings into the grooves.
5.
Make sure no cable or blanking plug is connected to the external connector.
6.
Reconnect the battery plug to the CPU PCB.
