ADVANCED DIAGNOSTIC MODE
This mode can be activated by touching the start button 5 times without the lanyard attached. At this
time the beeper will sound 1 short and 1 long beep. Reconnect the lanyard, if engine starts, everything
is OK. If not the beep codes will sound to signal the problem. Refer to the following chart to identify the
code.
NOTE: If more than one trouble code is recorded, the mpem will only send one. when corrected, the
next will sound until all have been cleared.
NUMBER OF BEEPS CAUSE REMEDY
NO BEEP • Engine starts. • Everything is correct.
1 LONG AND 1
SHORT • No safety lanyard has ever been
programmed in craft MPEM.
• Use programmer and program a
safety lanyard. This code can occur
only when you receive a new
MPEM from the factory and no key
has been programmed.
2 SHORT • MPEM cannot read the electronic
circuit in the safety lanyard or the
magnet is defective in the lanyard.
• Check safety lanyard condition
with the programmer. Replace
safety lanyard if reported defec-
tive.
• Mixed wires at the DESS post con-
nectors or bad connections.
• Check DESS post wiring harness.
2 LONG • Wrong safety lanyard • Use the safety lanyard that has
been programmed for the craft. If it
does not work, check safety lan-
yard condition with the program-
mer. Replace safety lanyard if re-
ported defective.
3 SHORT • Wire harness of DESS post is
grounded or there is a short circuit.
• Check wiring harness and DESS
post.
