Running the manual surge test using the Baker ZTX
1) To perform the bar- to-bar surge test, select the armature or DC motor from the
Explore
tab.
2) If the armature/DC motor has not been created, create the Motor ID as needed, then
select the
Test
tab.
3) Ensure that the TestID has the surge test turned on and is labeled “Surge Test Using
AT101ZTX.” To use the Baker ZTX, a manual test must be performed.
4) Click on the “volts” button in the third column under the
Surge Test Using Baker
ZTX
section. The
Surge Test
window opens.
5) Position the test fixture on the first bar, this will be the reference bar.
6) Press the footswitch and ramp to the desired voltage.
7) After the first bar is tested and the correct waveform is confirmed, click on the
Set
Ref
button. This establishes the reference for the remainder of the test and the
tester’s voltage level. No more ramping of the voltage will be necessary; do not
move the voltage knob.
8) A warning message will be displayed warning you that the zero interlock has been
disabled for the remainder of the test. The next time the Lead 1 button or the
footswitch is pressed, the leads will be energized at the voltage used by the reference
wave.

9) Move the test fixture to the second bar.
10) Press the Lead 1 button or footswitch. The Baker AWAIV will energize Lead 1 at the
preset voltage and the waveform will be displayed on the screen as the red wave.
The reference is also displayed as the blue waveform. A reference-to-bar EAR will
be displayed at the lower right. If the EAR percentage is greater than the tolerance,
the Ref-Bar EAR box background will turn red indicating a failure.
