Replacing System Fans
This section describes how to remove or install a system fan.
Remove/Replace a Fan
1.
If you have not already done so, remove the chassis cover to access the fans, see the example
in
Figure 6-5 on page 54
.
2.
Turn off the power to the system and unplug the AC power cord.
3.
Remove the failed fan's wiring connectors from the serverboard.
4.
Remove and retain the four pins securing the fan assembly to the fan tray.
5.
Lift the assembly housing the failed fan from the fan tray and out of the chassis, see the
example in
Figure 6-6 on page 55
.
6.
Place the new fan into the vacant space in the fan tray, while making sure the arrows on the
top of the fan (indicating air direction) point in the same direction as the arrows on the other
fans in the same fan tray. See
Figure 6-7 on page 56
for a fan assembly example.
7.
Reconnect the fan wires to the exact same chassis fan headers as the previous fan.
8.
Reconnect the AC power cord, power up the system and check that the fan is working
properly before replacing the chassis cover.
