Notes on Safety
Use the SIMATIC NET OLM12M optical link module only as explained in this
“Description and Operating Manual”.
Note all warnings and instructions relevant to safety.
Operate the optical link module only with a safety extra-low voltage complying with
IEC 950/EN 60 950/VDE 0805 of m32 V (typ24 V).
Keep to the electrical limit values for connecting voltage to the signaling contact. The
connected voltage must also be a safety extra-low voltage complying with IEC 950/EN
60 950/ VDE 0805.
Never connect the optical link module to a power supply of 110 V – 240 V.
Select the location where the module is installed so that the climatic limit values in
the technical data are adhered to.
Notes on the CE Approval
The optical link modules comply with the regulations of the following European directives and the
listed harmonized European standards (EN):
89/336/EEC directive for harmonization of the regulations of member states regarding
electromagnetic compatibility (modified by RL 91/263/EEC; 92/31/EEC and 93/68/EEC).
To meet the required EMC limit values according to this directive (see technical data), the modules
must be installed and operated according to this “Description and Operating Manual” particularly
Section “6.7 Installation”.
Make sure that the optical link modules are adequately grounded by connecting the
standard rail or mounting plate to local ground making low-resistance and
low-inductance contact.
Only use LAN cables approved for PROFIBUS as the RS 485 LAN cable.
Make sure that the shield of the RS 485 LAN cable makes secure, large-area contact
with the shield clip of the optical link module.
Screw down the securing flange of both terminal blocks.
