Removable hard disks
The removable racks support hot plugging in connection with RAID1 or RAID5 during
operation. If, however, you have configured a non-RAID system, you need to turn off the
device before replacing it.
CAUTION
Damage to the hard disk
If you replace an active hard disk, the hard disk and data are corrupted.
The device can no longer be operated without problems.
Replace the hard disk in the removable rack only if the HDD activity display of the device is
not lit up. Observe the ESD guidelines (Page 91). Always replace the faulty drive with a
new drive of the same type and capacity.
NOTICE
Always lock the hard disk cartridge in the removable rack to ensure reliable operation of the
device.
Determining a defective hard disk in the RAID system
The following figure shows a RAID5 system with three hard disks in removable racks and a
RAID1 system with two hard disks in removable racks and SSD. An HDD alarm LED is
located left of each hard disk in the removable rack.
