 Repair of sensor cables

WARNING!

In case of any damage to a sensor cable, switch off the
controller(s) connected to the cable as soon as possible.

Cut out the damaged sensor cable section and replace it with a new cable length.
Use two splice boxes for this.

Lay the replacement sensor cable with 3 to 5

m extra length on each end as

compared to the damaged cable. Set the two splice boxes in the middle of the
overlaps to ensure that sufficient fibre length is available for splicing.

Fig. 39

Cable laying for repair

The splice work may only be performed by a suitably qualified specialist
company. This company must draw up the splice protocol, which will be added
to the system documentation.

Check the sensor cable

Following the repair of the sensor cable, the fibre length must be updated and the
quality of the splice joints must be verified. For this, the following work is required:

determine and update the new fibre length by means of the backscatter curves

check the quality of the splices by means of the backscatter curves and the
temperature profiles.

Adjust zones

Following a repair of the sensor cable, the zones must be checked and must be
adjusted as required. For this, the following work is required:

heat up the borders of the respective zones with the FibroTester

check and adjust the physical borders of the zones by means of the hotspots

update the system documentation accordingly.
