Application example with Industrial Ethernet components
With Industrial Ethernet from Siemens A&D, it is possible to build up large and power-
ful networks. Components that are designed specifically for industry enable problem-
free data exchange over long distances.
Industrial Ethernet networks can be built up either electrically or optically, both in a lin-
ear structure as well as in redundant ring structures. The structure incorporates either
an OSM (Optical Switch Module) or an ESM (Electrical Switch Module). Transmis-
sions between the modules take place on fibre optic cables for OSM or TP/ITP
(Twisted Pair / Industrial Twisted Pair) cables for ESM.
Redundant networks increase the overall security and reduce installation down times.
It is vital for safety and security applications that network reconfiguration time be as
fast as possible after a network fault. The extremely fast reaction times after detection
ensure that a network can be reconfigured to a functioning network infrastructure
within fractions of a second.
The following application example shows a NK8000 network built with Industrial
Ethernet components in a redundant optical ring structure.
