Scope of Application
The bidirectional binary-signal transmitter uses wide-range inputs to measure 2 binary signals. It transmits
their states serially to the same type of remote station. In the remote station, the information is issued imme-
diately via isolated commandable contacts. Transmission makes direct use of a duplex fiber-optic cable or,
when connected to the RS232 interface, a modem or PCM device.
The binary-signal transmitter is designed for use in switchgears and allows to transmit signals without interfe-
rence, for example, for path protection. Device faults or transmission errors are detected reliably and trigger
an alarm relay. The factory setting of the binary-signal transmitter is prepared for a direct fiber-optic connec-
tion.
Performance Properties
•
Galvanically separated binary inputs (2) with an input-voltage range from DC 18 V to 250 V
•
Galvanically separated command relays with high switching power
•
Short transmission times using point-to-point connection (12 ms to 118 ms) depending on the operating
mode
•
Resistant to interference thanks to fiber-optic transmission, even in environments with high electromag-
netic noise levels
•
Reliable transmission using protocol traffic with monitoring
•
Range of 3 km for multimode optical fiber, 62.5 μm/125 μm
•
Up to 100 km for singlemode optical fibers when cascading with 7XV5461-0BA00
•
Integrated wide-range power supply unit with alarm relay
•
Transmission via modem or PCM devices
Full-Duplex Operation
The binary information is transmitted in both directions at the same time, for example, for comparing the
direction or the signal (as-delivered condition).
•
If the supply voltage fails, the alarm relay M1 drops out.
•
If the remote station receives no signal, the fault indicator is lit continuously (red LED: ERR) and the alarm
relay M1 drops out.
In order to ensure that the connected modems are not overloaded, the binary-signal transmitter in operation
only transmits additional data after 15 s.

NOTE
If a signal changes at a binary input of the binary-signal transmitter, this change is transmitted without
delay.
Half-Duplex Operation
Both binary information bits are transmitted in only one direction via a fiber-optic cable.
Transmitter
Setting Transmitter only using DIP S2-7 (see
)
•
If the supply voltage fails, the alarm relay M1 drops out.
•
No monitoring of the communication route by the transmitter
