Scope of Application
Functions/opportunities/options for the mini star coupler:

Centralized operations as well as signal and data exchange between different devices based on the multi-
plication of optical signals
•
An interference-proof connection via communication channels, either locally or over big distances
•
Suitable for use by power utilities and in other industrial sectors that have strict environmental require-
ments
•
Suitable for protection and automation applications with strict security and data-transmission accuracy
requirements.
The safety requirements are more stringent, for example when connecting SIPROTEC devices to a DIGSI
PC, SCADA, or RTU, or when carrying out time synchronization with a centralized time signal generator.
The operating modes can be adjusted externally using DIP switches.
The mini star coupler has an RS232 interface and 5 optical connections. Several mini star couplers can be
cascaded in order to increase the number of connections.
