NOTE!
Lay the cables such that there is no risk of people tripping over them and the
cables are protected against damage.
5.2.2
Recommended lengths of cable
The recommended maximum lengths of cable depending on the interface design and the
data transmission rate are as follows:
Interface type
Data transmission list
Distance to the target computer (host)
RS-232
Up to 19.2 kBd
38.4 ... 115.2 kBd

NOTE!
▸
Use shielded data cables with twisted-pair wires.
▸
To avoid interference (e.g., from switching power supplies, motors, clocked drives,
and contactors), always use suitable EMC cables and layouts.
▸
To prevent interference factors, do not lay data cables over a longer route in parallel
with voltage supply cables and motor cables (e.g., in cable channels).
The maximum length of cable for the CAN sensor network must not exceed 76 m.
Otherwise, it may not be possible to achieve the required data transmission rate of
500 kBit/s.
The maximum length of each individual stub cable to the CAN network is 6 m.
The required wire cross-section for the data cable depends on the total length of the
network. The following table shows the overview as per ISO 11898.
