Installation and use procedures
7.1
Before installation
7.1.1
Materials required
l
Two tamper-proof screws (see
Tamper-proof screws specifications on page 100
) to
mount each sensor.
l
Cables to connect the control to the first sensor and the sensors to one another (see
CAN bus cables recommended specifications on page 100
).
l
A data micro-USB cable or, only if the Ethernet port is available, an Ethernet cable to
connect the control to the computer.
l
A bus terminator (product code: 6073830) with resistance of 120 Ω for the last
sensor of the CAN bus.
l
A screwdriver for tamper-proof screws (see
Tamper-proof screws specifications on
) to be used with the Hex pin security bit supplied in the control package.

Operating system required
l
Microsoft Windows 7 or later
l
Apple OS X 10.10 or later
7.1.3
Install the safeRS3 Designer application
Note
: if the installation fails, the dependencies needed by the application may be
missing. Update your operating system or contact our Technical Support team to receive
assistance.
1. Download the application from the
www.sick.com
website and install it on the
computer.
2. With Microsoft Windows operating system, download and install from the same site
also the driver for USB connection.
3. Start the application.
4. Choose the connection mode (data micro-USB or Ethernet).
Note
: the default IP address for the Ethernet connection is 192.168.0.20. The
computer and the control must be connected to the same network.
5. Set a new admin password, memorize it and provide it only to people who are
authorized to change the configuration.
6. Select the device (safeRS3).
7. Set the country in which the system is installed and the application type.
7.1.4
Initiate safeRS3
1. Calculate the position of the sensor (see
) and the depth
of the dangerous area (see
Dangerous area calculation on page 57
).
