3.1.5

Determination of path length and path angle

Exact determination of ultrasonic path length and angle to the main air flow direction (path
angle) is of utmost importance for accurate and reliable measurement result and in order
to ensure proper function of FLOWSIC60. 
The values of path length and path angle have to be entered into the SPU during commis-
sioning and should be documented and filed safely.

Determine exact path length

Measure the distance between both front sensor surfaces by adequate means (refer to 

Fig. 12

Measurement should be done with a maximum uncertainty of 

±

2 mm. If applicable, use 

laser distance measurement tools.

Determine exact path angle

Determine the angle of the measuring path to the main air flow direction (path angle as 
given in 

Fig. 12

 by adequate means. 

Determination should be done with a maximum uncertainty of 1°. A useful method can 
be the calculation of the path angle by using trigonometric function with a right angled 
triangle (
