Remove air filter cover and remove spark plug lead.

Remove two guide bar nuts and remove sprocket guard.

Remove three muffler cover screws and remove muffler cover.

Remove spark arrestor screen cover, gaskets, and screen from

muffler body.
Clean carbon deposits from muffler components.
5.
Replace screen if it is cracked, plugged, or has holes burned through.
6.
IMPORTANT :
The cylinder exhaust port must be inspected and
cleaned of excess carbon every 3 months or 90 hours of operation in
order to maintain this engine within the emissions durability period.
Shindaiwa strongly recommends that you return your unit to your Shin-
daiwa dealer for this important maintenance service.
IMPORTANT:
Carbon deposits in muffler will cause a drop in engine
output and overheating. Spark arrester screen must be checked
periodically.
NOTE:
When cleaning carbon deposit, be careful not to damage the
catalytic element inside muffler.
Assemble components in reverse order.
7.
MUFFLER SPARK ARRESTER
CYLINDER ExHAUST PORT
Exhaust Port Cleaning - Level 2
Tools required: Wood or plastic scraper, cross-head (Philips) screw-
driver, 4 and 5 mm hex wrench
Parts Required: (as needed) muffler gasket
Remove spark plug lead from spark plug, and remove muffler

Use a wood or plastic scraping tool (C) to clean deposits from cyl-

IMPORTANT
Never use a metal tool to scrape carbon from the exhaust port.

Do not scratch the cylinder or piston when cleaning the exhaust

port. Do not allow carbon particles to enter the cylinder.
Inspect muffler gasket, and replace if damaged.

Install muffler gasket and muffler.

Install muffler cover and attach spark plug lead.

Replace the three muffler cover screws securely. If a torque

wrench is available, torque the muffler cover screws to 10 - 20 kgf-
cm (1 - 2 N-m).
