water need descaling (i.e. removal of lime 

deposits) on a regular basis to ensure proper 

functioning. 

Any warranty claim will be null 

and void if the appliance malfunctions 

because of insuf

fi

 cient descaling.

When the brewing process takes longer than 

normal, it is likely that descaling is necessary. 

Vinegar concentrate may be used for 

descaling.

 

 Fill the glass jug to the 4-cup mark with 

water and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar 

concentrate. 

 

 Pour the mixture into the water container.

 

 Let the appliance run through one or two 

brewing cycles (as described in the section 

Making espresso

) with the 

fi

 lter holder and 

fi

 lter insert 

fi

 tted, but without putting in any 

coffee.  

 

 As soon as the glass jug has half 

fi

 lled, 

set the rotary switch to the  -symbol.

 

 Place a suitable container underneath the 

steam nozzle and turn the rotary control 

to the steam symbol ( ). Activate the 

steam nozzle for around 2 minutes. 

 

 Then set the rotary control to the 

-symbol, and allow the descaling solution 

to take effect.

 

 After approx. 15 minutes, turn the rotary 

control back to the espresso symbol (

and allow the water container to drain 

completely before turning the rotary 

control to the 

 position (place a 

suitable container underneath the steam 

nozzle).

 

 To clean out the system after descaling, 

operate the appliance twice more with 

clean water only, activating the steam 

nozzle for approx 2 minutes after each 

cycle. 

 

 Rinse the screw-in lid, 

fi

 lter holder and 

glass jug in clean water.

 

 

Do not pour descalers into enamelled 

sinks.
