- Place all the equipment on an appropriate construction (table, bench, ...) to
the weight of it.
- Remote or isolated from the presence of personnel.
- Need several outlets.
Details for fume extraction:
1. Kjeldahl digestion generates highly corrosive acid fumes and irritating to
humans and animals. They are not toxic.
2. Although means for extracting fumes are installed, it should be set in an
isolated area of the laboratory.
3. Avoid unnecessary exposure to fumes.
4. If installed in a fume hood, this must be constructed of suitable materials,
plastics, glass, ...
5. The draw-fumes with a jet vacuum pump may be sufficient, but within an
enclosed with external ventilation. Its effectiveness depend on the actions of
the vacuum tube. A water tap (with a minimum pressure of approximately 2.5
bar) and a drainage are needed.
6. Fumes extraction with a scrubber unit or two and a vacuum pump water
circulationis recommended. It can be done without hoods or booths.
7. For MACRO 20 places systems, it is recommended installing two Scrubber
units both connected to the two vacuum inputs.

MANTENIMIENTO
MAINTENANCE
Before removing the cover, disconnect the
equipment from the mains.
The control board could only be manipulated by
duly authorized maintenance people.
CLEANING:
For cleaning the equipment, we recommend the use of
the following products:
7.- Press START “7”, if you use a vacuum pump for
fumes extraction and open the water tap.
8.- Put the end caps on the rack openings, adjusting
the screw in the rack.
9.- Once the digestion has finished, carefully take out
the tubes with the rack and fume exhaust assem-
bly, leaving them in the rack stand.
10- When the samples are cool enough, around 15
minutes, take out the fume exhaust assembly,
place it on its support and dilute the samples with
distilled water (normally 25 ml). Mix well, using heat-
resistant gloves for your protection. The tubes
cooling can be accelerated by blowing cold air with
a small fan. If the sample is too hot, we could
have a violent reaction when adding water and some
sample may be lost. On the other hand, if it is too
cold, salts can be precipitated and this will be
difficult to dissolve (solidifications must be avoided,
but if this occurs, place the tube in the heater block
again for a short time).
11- Leave tubes to cool down before distilling.
