If the IP address must be changed at some point, only the new IP address must be
stored in the print server and the assignment of the IP address to the host name
must be changed in the 'hosts' file. In other operating systems, such as AS/400
for example, the name of the assignment file may differ.
Logical Printers
Logical printers are so-called pre-installed print server filters. Print data is
interpreted according to the set logical printer. The following pre-defined logical
printers are available:
If no logical printer has been selected during installation, the printing sequence
will be carried out automatically via the logical printer 1. Depending on your
system, logical printers may be addressed in various ways:
- in UNIX systems, Mac OS X networks and when printing via FTP, logical printers
are addressed with lp1 through lp8,
- in Novell networks, with #1 through #8
- in Windows networks, the printing sequence is carried out via the TCP/IP ports
- in Apple 9/8 networks, no logical printers are available
