IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
!
WARNING
No automatic activation!
This buoyancy aid can only be inflated manually by pulling the ripcord or by
using the oral valve.
A buoyancy aid is a tool which provides protection against drowning. It does not provide
any guarantee of rescue or survival. Before use, read the instructions for use and the product
information carefully. Note the information on the buoyancy aid.
Please note that the buoyancy aid only becomes fully functional after complete inflation.
The buoyancy aid is only suitable for temperatures above -10°C.
WARNING: Compressed gas cartridges are dangerous. Keep away from children, only use
as per specifications.
When jumping into the water, cross the arms over the inflated buoyancy aid to avoid injury
and damage! Avoid jumps from a height of more than 3 m.
If you wear additional weights or buoyancy chambers or your clothing causes buoyancy,
the function of the buoyancy aid may be adversely affected.
Test your buoyancy aid in a swimming pool to become familiar with the function and the
behaviour in water. Instruct your children.
Don‘t use buoyancy aid as a pillow.
Your buoyancy aid is provided with a 2-sound signal pipe. In an emergency, you can use it
for calling help.

CHECK OF INFLATION DEVICE BEFORE USE (QUICK CHECK)
Each time before you put on the life jacket, check that the inflation device(s) is/are
operative. To do so, open the Velcro fastener on the buoyancy aid.
2.1 GAS CARTRIDGE (CO
2
) FULL?
Unscrew the cartridge and check if it is unspoiled (see Figure 1). If the mouth is damaged,
replace the gas cartridge by a new original SECUMAR spare cartridge. Screw the
cartridge back in hand tight.
2.2 IS INDICATOR GREEN?
If the indicator is green (manual release lever secured) and the cartridge is full, the inflation
device is operative (see Figure 2), otherwise it must be made ready as described in Chapter
7.
After checking and making the inflation device ready again if necessary, the buoyancy
chamber should be folded together again and stowed away in the bag.
3
CHECK THE BUOYANCY AID BEFORE EVERY SEASON
Open the Velcro fastener of the buoyancy aid and unfold the buoyancy chamber.
Inflate the buoyancy chamber via the oral valve fully (also refer to Chapter 5) and allow it to
rest for approx. 16 hours. If the buoyancy chamber is still full after this time, it is OK.
3.1 ORAL VALVE OPERATIONAL?
Remove the dust cap and check that the valve insert is operative using the back side of the
dust cap or the nose of the dust cap (see Figure3). After pressing down the oral valve and
pulling it out again, the cap must close completely. Replace the dust cap again.
3.2 PROTECTION COVER AND STRAPS UNDAMAGED?
Check the bag, webbing and fittings for damage and the existing accessories for comple
-
teness.
Taking the buoyancy aid out of service may be necessary, for example if the strength of the
fabric and the straps is reduced by prolonged UV impact.
3.3 GAS CARTRIDGE (CO
2
) OK?
Replace empty and corroded/rusty gas cartridges by new original SECUMAR spare
cartridges.
Should you find any defects during the inspection, take your buoyancy aid to the SECUMAR
SERVICE for maintenance in any case (via authorized dealer or directly at manufacturer).
4
PUTTING ON THE BUOYANCY AID
Never wear the buoyancy aid beneath an item of clothing. Open the buckle and place the
jacket around your hips (see Figure 6). Close buckle safely.
Adjust the waist belt so that it fits tightly. Only a tightly fitting buoyancy aid will keep you in
a stable position on your back in the water.
WARNING: Wearing the buoyancy aid loosely is dangerous.
Remove the buoyancy aid from the bag by the yellow belt as necessary and pull over your
head.
Inflate the buoyancy chamber (see Chapter 5).
5
INFLATING THE BUOYANCY AID
5.1 INFLATING WITH THE MANUAL INFLATION DEVICE SECUMATIC S31:
The inflation process is released by pulling the pull-cord firmly.
