To connect your SDTV to the 1840, see the connection diagrams
beginning on page 12. Select the configuration that best matches your
entertainment devices.
It may take several minutes for the set-top to receive the latest
software, programming, and service information. When the Power light
on the front panel stops flashing, that is your indication that the
programming update is complete.
Step-By-Step Connection Instructions
To connect your 1840 to your entertainment devices, complete these steps.
To begin watching TV, turn the TV ON, and press POWER on the front
of the 1840, or press Power on the remote control.
Plug the 1840 and the TV into an AC power source.
Important: To protect the 1840 from power surge damage, ground
(earth) your cable product to provide some protection against voltage
surges and built-up static charges. To avoid these voltage surges that
can be caused by lightning storms and power outages, plug the 1840
into a surge protector to reduce the risk of damage.

Do not turn on the 1840 or TV yet. It may take several minutes for the
1840 to receive the latest software, programming, and service
information. Wait until you see one of the following displays on the front
panel of the 1840 that indicates that the update is complete:
• Current time
• Four dashes (- - - -)
Note: If four dashes are displayed, you must call your cable service
provider to get the 1840 authorized.
Upon power-up, the TV screen may occasionally display a message that indicates the
1840 is automatically updating its software. Wait for the time to display on the front
panel of your 1840. When the front panel displays the time, the update is complete.
