Relay Elements
Overcurrent Protection
Setting
Descriptions
Pickup Settings
Refer to
and
for the setting
labels. Use these settings to determine the level where the instantaneous
overcurrent elements assert and at what level the time-overcurrent elements
begin timing. The time-overcurrent element curves are scaled in multiples of
this pickup setting. Disable an element by setting the pickup to OFF and
disregard the other settings of the element.
Set the phase time-overcurrent element to provide sensitive detection and
coordinated time-overcurrent protection for balanced and unbalanced fault
conditions. Use the negative-sequence time-overcurrent element to provide
sensitive detection and coordinated time-overcurrent protection for
unbalanced fault conditions including phase-to-phase, phase-to-ground, and
phase-to-phase ground faults. Set the residual time-overcurrent element to
provide sensitive detection and coordinated time-overcurrent protection for
phase-to-ground faults.
Torque-Control Settings
Refer to
for the setting labels. Torque control refers to
a conditional enable of the element. Elements are torque controlled by setting
the Relay Word bit 51nTC to either one (permanently energized) or zero
(disabled) or by entering a SEL
OGIC
control equation. The latter provides
conditional assertion of the element as a function of the SEL
OGIC
control
equation.
Time-Dial Settings
Refer to
for the setting labels. Coordinate with
downstream devices by delaying the instantaneous pickup of an element using
this setting.
Curve Shape
Refer to
for the setting labels. Select curve shape and
time-dial settings to coordinate with downstream phase, negative-sequence,
and residual time-overcurrent elements. Refer to the time-overcurrent
equations and curves (see
Time–Overcurrent Curve Equations on page 3.16
)
for the specific time-overcurrent characteristic equations.
U.S. Curve Shapes
U1–Moderately Inverse
U2–Inverse
U3–Very Inverse
U4–Extremely Inverse
U5–Short-Time Inverse
IEC Curve Shapes
C1–Class A (Standard Inverse)
C2–Class B (Very Inverse)
