· Stainless steel is resistant to corrosion due to its chemical properties. The material is,
however, sensitive to extraneous rust or surface rust. This is created as a result of iron
particles coming into contact with water on the surface of the stainless steel. The
passivation layer, which protects the stainless steel from external „attacks“, is damaged
as a result and the stainless steel is activated – extraneous rust appears. It is generally
difficult to know where the iron particles come from. It could be that the water pipes
are made from iron or that the stainless steel item came into contact with other objects
containing iron in the dishwasher. The rust can be removed using commercially availa-
ble stainless steel cleaners.
· Particularly tough dirt on non-coated stainless steel cookware can be removed with the
help of a tablespoon of dishwasher cleaner. Boil with some water and leave to stand
overnight; then rinse carefully with hot water.
