§ Wing Belly Pan
20
T-45 Goshawk Composite
}}}}
Once you are happy with the fit of the belly pan
draw lines along the edges. This will denote the
location where the covering will be removed
from the wing to expose the wood for bonding
the belly pan.
}}}}
Tip, if you plan to make your T-45 a belly lander
you may want to take this opportunity to place
some reinforcements inside the belly pan and
trim them for fit.
}}}}
Once you are done with the fitting you can
remove the wing from the fuselage.

Remove the covering from the location where
you will bond the wing bolt reinforcement plate.
Make your cut on the line or slightly outside the
line to make sure that your reinforcement plate
is completely bonded to the wood.
}}}}
You can use a sharp hobby knife for this but
make sure that you take a shallow cut to avoid
scoring the balsa sheeting and weakening the
wing. Another option is to use a hot knife to
melt through the covering without damaging the
balsa sheeting.
}}}}
Cut away a 1/8” to 3/16” wide strip covering on
the inside of the lines marked for the belly pan.
This will ensure the belly pan completely covers
the wood once it has been bonded in place.

}}}}
Make two holes in the belly pan big enough for
the wing bolts to slip though. Don’t worry about
the washers for now; you will glue these to the
wing bolt reinforcement plate with some CA
adhesive so they don’t get lost.
