INTRODUCTION

Thank you for choosing a Sanamama to carry your baby in. It draws on
the wisdom of an age old African tradition, but with added safety features
for your total peace of mind.  Your Sanamama is therefore safe and
comfortable for both you and your baby, and it has a host of other health
and emotional benefits as well.  These include:

• Promoting an even greater feeling of closeness between you and your
baby. Being so close to your baby makes it easier to “tune in” to his or her
needs and respond to them.

• Your hands are free to carry out day to day activities.

• It is one of the most comfortable ways to carry your baby.
The Sanamama aligns your baby’s hips in the optimal position for healthy
development.  Because it distributes your baby’s weight evenly across
your back from your shoulders to your hips, it keeps your baby’s centre of
gravity close to your body and this in turn strengthens your back muscles
and helps to maintain correct posture.

• It allows your baby to feel safe and secure, an essential ingredient in
development of good self-esteem in later years.

• It encourages your baby’s physical development, because your baby
learns to move with your body as you move, in turn strengthening muscles
and helping develop balance.

• Your baby becomes a participant in daily life and is able to observe and
learn about various surroundings and interactions, while in a secure
atmosphere.

• And finally, babies who are carried tend to cry a lot less!

WHAT “SANAMAMA” MEANS...

Because of its strong African roots, we gave the carrier a name that is
made up of two African words: “Sana”, meaning “baby” and “mama”
meaning “mother”, to reflect the bond and sense of unity this product
gives mother and baby.
