INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
SILVERSOUND – SAL 2610 hOmE ThEATER FAmILy
The
SILVERSOUND
speaker box line is an ideal basis for forming a dynamic home theater system but is also well suited for listening
to conventional stereo music.
The standing front enclosures are three-way bass-reflex types. They may be connected via Bi-Wire (double) cabling, provided that the 8
Ohm subwoofer is connected to a separate subwoofer amplifier. The low-mi high section is also 8 Ohms. By using the supplied
bridge connector the resultant impedance will be 4 Ohms.
The front speakers may be used in a 4 or 8 Ohm system depending on
whether the subwoofer is driven by a separate subwoofer amplifier. In this
case the bridge connector connecting the 2-2 poles of the connecting
socket must be removed.
The surround enclosures are also of the bass-reflex type and may be wall-
hung.. The speakers in the center are magnetically shielded which allows
placing the in the direct vicinity of a TV set. The complete sound system is
characterized by a strong, dynamic sound.
Because of their special design the speakers require special care. To
ensure long and reliable operation please observe the ground rules of
electroacoustics.
ThE SpEAkER
All speakers have to be broken in prior to routine use. During the first 15-20 hours of operation the sound system may only be
used at 50 % load! The characteristics and sound quality designed during manufacturing will only be reached after this period.
ThE AmpLIFIER
Only amplifiers of suitable quality and power may be used! Turning up amplifiers of relatively low power results in significant distortion
which puts a highly damaging strain on the voice coils of the speakers. This is especially true for final amplifiers. A distorted sine signal
changes and becomes similar to a square wave (direct voltage). Overloading causes the voice coil first to overheat and then to burn out.
The first sign of this process is the smell of warmed up glue and lacquer coming from the enclosure. After this the deformed coil will
start to rasp (rattle). This is a typical sign of improper use!
If the aim is to realize a high-standard sound system it is recommended to turn off the amplifier’s tone controls and the bass-enhancing
circuit! The use of these is unnecessary and harmful. (They will only improve the sound spectrum in the case of inferior quality
enclosures.) In the case of an enclosure system of suitable quality the resulting sound will be natural when no tone controls are used.
SETTINg IN OpERATION
Check whether the impedance and power data of the amplifier and enclosures are suitable for interconnection. The speakers’ musical
load capacity should be at least 30-50 % greater than the musical output power per channel of the amplifier.
Connect the speaker cables to the speakers and the amplifier, paying special attention to +/- polarity. During this time the amplifier
should be turned off and disconnected from the mains. The minimum recommended cable cross-section area is 2 x 1 mm
2
.
Before turning the system on for the first time, check all cabling, correct polarity and turn the volume control all the way down! To avoid
speaker thumping do not connect any cables (speaker or other connecting cables) during operation! Never turn the system on with the
volume control turned up! The noise impulse generated in this case may immediately cause damage to the speakers!
Promptly turn the amplifier off at the first sign of warning (strange smell, distorted sound ...)! This will avoid damaging the speakers in
many cases.
Damage caused by overloading because of misuse or improper operation is not covered under the warranty!
Keep in mind that the power output stated on the amplifier is only valid with the tone controls turned off. With the high and low tone
controls turned up, the strain on speakers may be multiplied on a given frequency!
Putting out a distorted signal means heavily overloading the speaker!
