6. Ensure adequate road clearance so that the exhaust cannot be damaged by road bumps or deflation
of tires. The road clearance for areas that are not found between the wheels of the vehicle can be
measured by establishing a front and rear wheel departure line, which is a straight line from the
front and rear tire-road interface to the front and rear bumper respectively. See Figure below. All
exhaust pipes should be placed as high above this line as possible.
7. Install skid bars to provide additional protected area for exhaust pipe (if necessary).
