ROYAL 980X PAPER SHREDDER

Setup:

1.  Remove the wastebasket from the shredder cabinet.
2.  Carefully remove the shredder head from the

wastebasket and place it securely on top of the shredder

cabinet. The shredder head should snap securely in place
by means of the locking tabs located directly on top on the
shredder cabinet.

3.  Slide the wastebasket back inside the shredder cabinet until

the front of the basket fits flush with the front of the cabinet.

4.  Four casters, 2 locking casters for the front and 2 free wheeling casters for the rear,

have been included for your convenience. To install the casters, carefully lie the
shredder on its back and firmly push the post of the caster into the hole located on
the bottom of each corner until you hear and feel it snap securely in place. Follow
this procedure until all four casters have been evenly inserted into place.

5.  Carefully upright the shredder and make sure that the casters are set evenly and that

the shredder does not rock back and forth.  The 2 front casters can be locked to
prevent the shredder from rolling.

6.  Plug the power cord into any standard 115-volt AC outlet.
7.  Depress the Power Button.  The Power LED should light up.  If the Power LED

does not light up, make sure that the wastebasket is securely in place and the power
cord is plugged in correctly.

Operating the shredder:

With the electrical cord plugged in, the Power Button depressed, the shredder properly
placed on top of the cabinet and the wastebasket properly in place, the Power Button
LED
should light up.   This means that the shredder is now ready for operation.   When
the paper is inserted into the feed opening, the shredding process will start automatically
and stop when the paper has completed its travel through the feed opening.
The Royal 980X Power Button is located on the top of the shredder.  Also located on
top of the shredder are two function buttons.  Their purposes are:

1. When the FWD Button is depressed, the shredding process will start.  However,

the forward shred cycle last 2 seconds.  This will allow the feed opening to be
cleared in the event excess paper is left in the shredder.

2. The REV Button is used to assist in the removal of a paper jam, which reverses the

shredding process prior to a completed forward cycle, thus clearing the cutters.
The reverse cycle will last for 2 seconds.  This should be enough time to remove
any excess paper from the cutters and limit any paper from the wastebasket being
fed back into the shredder cutters.

3. The Power Button is used to terminate the AC power to the shredder. It is
recommended to turn the shredder off when the shredder is not being used for a
prolonged period of time.

When manually changing the direction of the cutters, pause long enough for the motor
to stop to avoid any damage to the motor.

ROYAL 980X PAPER SHREDDER

Shredder capacity:

The Royal 980X will shred up to nine (9) sheets of 20-lb. bond paper and will accept
paper widths up to 8 3/4".  When shredding small material like envelopes or credit card
receipts, insert them in the middle of the feed opening.  The shredder will emit an
audible beep when the wastebasket is full.  The beep will continue until the basket has
been emptied.  The shredder will not function until the beeping has stopped.

Cautions:
1.  Keep all loose articles of clothing, ties, jewelry, hair or other small items away from

the feed opening to prevent injury.

2.  Keep the shredder turned off or unplugged when not in use for prolonged periods

of time.

3.  Remove all paper clips and staples from paper before shredding.   The Royal 980X

will cut staples and small paper clips however, to prolong the life of the shredder
it is not recommended.

4.  Do not place hands or fingers into the shredder throat as serious injury could result.
5. When manually changing feed direction, pause long enough for the motor to stop.
6.  Continuous shredding of computer paper should not exceed 20 minutes.   If continuous

use is required at the maximum sheet capacity (9 sheets), it is recommend that
shredding time should be 20 minutes on and 25 minutes off to allow for proper
cooling of the motor.

7.  Always turn off or unplug the shredder prior to moving, cleaning or emptying the

wastebasket.

8.  Empty wastebasket frequently.

Paper jams and motor overload situations:
The Royal 980X is equipped with an automatic motor reversal device and a motor
overload protection circuit. The duty cycle for the 980X is rated for continuous shredding.
The manufacturers suggested running time at maximum capacity is 20 minutes on and
25 minutes off. The 980X will automatically reverse the paper out of the shredder throat
or the power may terminate automatically in case of the following abnormal situations:

1. Operating the shredder at the maximum 9-sheet capacity continuously for a prolonged

period of time, eg. More than 20 minutes without stopping.

2. Exceeding the shredding capacity, eg. Inserting more than nine (9) sheets of 20-lbs.

paper in one pass, or if the paper is not fed squarely into the feed opening.

Both abnormal operations may result in the activation of the automatic reversal of the
paper or the thermal motor overload protection, which terminates the power to the
shredder.  A minor paper jam may cause the paper to feed in the opposite direction and
be ejected from the feed opening.  In this case the Power LED will go from white to
red.  When the paper is removed from the feed opening and the paper sensor has been
cleared the Power LED will return to white and normal shredding can resume.   A
major paper jam could cause the thermal motor overload protection to terminate AC
power to the motor and in this case the Power LED will go from white to red.  The
Power LED will remain red for approximately 25 minutes until the motor has had a
chance to cool down to its normal operating temperature. Never allow the shredder to
remain in a jammed condition with the AC power turned on.  If this occurs you should:
