5.4- Spraying tips
For best results thoroughly clean the surface being painted, this should be free from dust and
grease. It is also advisable to protect the painted area from airborne dust particles.
To obtain the best results use the Spray Gun at a distance of 25-30cm away from the surface being
sprayed.
Several light coats rather than one thick coat will help prevent the paint running.
Allow each coat to dry slightly before re-applying.
Use long sweeping arm movements rather than short wrist movements to ensure the distance
between the work piece and the Spray Gun is kept constant.
The most suitable method of surface spraying is with a cross-pattern, starting with horizontal
passes and finishing with light vertical passes.
It may be necessary to mask the surrounding area of the work piece. This can be done using tape
and newspaper.
For window panes a damp piece of newspaper stuck to the pane will protect the glass for a short
period.
