Updated samba packages that fix several bugs are now available.
Samba is a suite of programs used by machines to share files, printers, and other information.
These updated samba packages provide fixes for the following bugs:
• due to the method in which the Microsoft® Excel program saves files, in certain corner cases the
access control list (ACL) inheritance rules could have been interpreted in the wrong order, and
the owner of a file saved by Excel could have ended up losing access to that file. These updated
packages include an adjusted fix for this problem which fixes the ACL inheritance so that saving an
Excel file does not cause the owner to change. (

• a user who did not own a directory on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 machine accessed via Samba
was also unable to write to that directory when its permissions were set to 733. The user should
have been able to both write to and enter (but not list the contents of) a directory with such a
permission mode. With this update, users are once again able to write to directories over Samba
when they possess the appropriate permissions, thus resolving this issue. (
