Using Workboat mode

Operation in Workboat mode is available whenever the Raypilot 650
Professional is in any of the automatic autopilot modes.

As with the standard Raypilot 650 operation, the RayPilot 650
professional will keep your boat on the selected magnetic heading in
Auto (Compass) mode or track to a selected waypoint in Track
(Navigation) mode. However, there are a number of additional
calibration parameters to consider with the RayPilot 650
Professional.

Auto mode – Rudder centering

Information on the standard modes and their control is covered in
section 4 of the RayPilot 650 Owner’s Handbook. However, the
Raypilot 650 Professional has additional control if the center rudder
(Rudder Datum  = 0) option has been selected in calibration. In this
situation, if the

AUTO

key is pressed when the autopilot is already in

Auto mode, the pilot will accept the current heading as the new
locked heading.

High speed and low speed operation

Workboat mode provides an extended range of control parameters to
help control your boat in slow speed working conditions. As you run
through the calibration section, you will notice the additional
selection available as well as the extended range of settings. In a
number of cases, you will have to make selections for high and slow
speed operation which refer to the settings that can be applied during
normal and workboat operation.

Counter rudder (rate)

The circumstances under which counter rudder (rate) correction is
applied depends on the calibration selections:

During non-workboat operation, it will depend on the selected
‘Response level’ (for example, nothing will be applied for Levels
1 or 2 and the selected value for Level 3).

In Workboat mode it depends only on the selected ‘Counter
rudder (Rate)’ value (for example, Level 0 results in no correction
applied, while increasing correction is applied for Levels 1 to 9).
